frequently asked questions

  • Chemistry Gin is the flagship product of the Karori Drinks Company. “Karori” is the name of the largest suburb in New Zealand, and it’s home to our founders.

  • Yes, Chemistry Gin is vegan-friendly. We made a conscious decision to create a vegan gin. We hope you like it.

  • Our main botanicals, after juniper, are Sichuan (Szechwan) peppercorns, sage and seaweed.

  • It was important to us that we didn’t develop a recipe for our gin that relied on rare or hard to source ingredients. Sustainability is key to our ethos at Chemistry. We don’t want to deplete resources that are scarce or at-risk. And so we selected widely available botanicals, and chose to combine them in a unique way. That’s the ‘Chemistry’ way — using what’s available in a new and special way. We hope you like it!

  • Thank you! We spent a long time sourcing the perfect bottle for our gin. When we found this beautiful bottle, it resonated with us on at least two levels.

As with our botanicals, we wanted to choose packaging that would ‘tread lightly on the planet’. We were thrilled to find a beautiful bottle made from recycled glass. Not just a portion of recycled glass, but made with 100% post-consumer glass!

It’s called Wild Glass, and it’s full of imperfections and colour variations. It requires up to 35% fewer energy inputs to make it, and it’s better for the planet than regular glass.

Secondly, the bottle design is called “Pharma” — perfect for our medical biochemist Dr Marie! We hope you like it, too.

We hope you will re-use your Chemistry Gin bottle — put flowers in it, or serve water. Anything to keep it circulating and out of landfill. (We’re hoping for a bottle return scheme in the future, but we’re a long way off at the moment.)
